The Un-Resolutions

by Eden on December 30, 2011

This is the time of year when everyone focuses on change.

They write goals and resolutions for the upcoming year. Sure, there’s no shortage of things I need to work on in my life (like remembering to bathe). But I feel like this might be too much emphasis on what’s not going right.

I think we should acknowledge what IS going right; the things in our life that are working for us. After all, they’re no less important than those aspects of ourselves that we feel need to be tweaked.

So here are my un-resolutions:

  • I am reaching out to people when I’m having a rough time.
  • I sure can pick awesome friends

trust me, they all pretty much rock (note: many awesome friends are unpictured)

  • I’m, like, totally hot

  • I’m know how to spot a bargain

I took this picture today, so um...go get your yogurt! Its a steal!

  • I’m greatful and enjoying every moment with my dad, even when he’s being an ass
  • I can cook, kinda…
  • I like to make people laugh.

not that this is funny or anything...actually, this is quite sad.

  • I’m really good at “fart catagorizing”

  • I say it like it is (and I’m not afraid of doing so)
  • My photography is improving…kinda

foodgawker still rejects every single entry I submit :(

  • I really like my blog.

What about you? Do you have any un-resolutions. Let’s hear em.

how does foodgawker reject your photos?? i think they’re really good!

Asian Bitch December 31, 2011 at 12:23 am

Lol, Foodgawker is zust a zealous haterrrrrrrrr!!! Nah but seriously, maybe try Tastespotting?
And you can totally cook, I made a 2-3 of your recipes and really liked them.

My un-resolution would be:
-I say out loud the things that normal people are too embarrassed to say (that could also be a resolution though…it’s not always a good thing :s)

Eden December 31, 2011 at 9:16 am

Tastespotting actually DID accept ONE photo. And to be honest, I don’t think it was my greatest by any means. I honestly think such sites like to kiss ass to the more popular blogs.

Katie December 31, 2011 at 8:32 am

Geez you are awesome. And you are seriously…really hot.

Also I’ve submitted so many rejected pictures to foodgawker that I’ve lost count. It’s a good thing they keep count for me…really helps my self-esteem.

Happy new year!!

Leah @ L4L December 31, 2011 at 8:43 am

I *really* like your blog too! (And I gave up on submitting pics to FG & TS. Eff them.)

Eden December 31, 2011 at 9:15 am

What I really don’t get is why they reject my photos but the put up really bad ones!? And its usually a “popular” blogger (eyeroll)…

Eden December 31, 2011 at 9:04 pm

I know, right? I say we start our own. It’ll be the GOMI of foodgawker.

eve December 31, 2011 at 9:14 am

yeah! this is what i try to do as well : un-resolutions. I’ve faced reality a long time ago that I break resolutions at an alarming rate, from year to year! So I’ll cheers on great family and friends, great food, great drinks, and to a new year full of all of the above. I always challenge myself to try new things, but no pressure! Cheers to you and yours Eden, and many more un-resolutions!

Pure2raw twins December 31, 2011 at 9:34 am

oh yes you are hot!! work it girl

wishing you the very best new years!!

Amanda December 31, 2011 at 9:52 am

I like your blog too, Eden!

I am trying to focus on what’s right this year instead of what’s annoying me. The list of what bugs me is way bigger than the list of what makes me happy. What can I say? I’m a grumpy old man in disguise.

Speaking of which, that is a GREAT deal for Fage. YAY!

Ellen December 31, 2011 at 11:45 am

You should add that you bring much needed laughter to a lot of people to your list. For real. I don’t actually lol much, but I do reading your blog.

Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry December 31, 2011 at 2:07 pm

Happy New Year Eden!!! (haha, I almost wrote Happy or Hungry)

You ARE like totally hot.
I am with you in the unresolution camp. I adore making people laugh though, so I hope to continue to do this.
And I am new to your blog, but love it, so I’m excited to read about your shenanigans in 2012!

Eden December 31, 2011 at 9:03 pm

You make me laugh. And very few people do. So feel special. Happy new year to you too. :)

Cara December 31, 2011 at 7:11 pm

I unresolve to care anymore when the flab on my triceps gleefully flap like chicken wings when I write on the chalkboard or any movement resembling waving (I don’t really write on a chalkboard, come to think about it)…
P.S. I, too, have given up on FoodGawker. It annoys me as well when I see a crappy photo up there when I think I am at least decent. Politics. Time to start our own photo blog and deny any pics from FG! Yeah, stick it to the man!

Eden December 31, 2011 at 9:02 pm

seriously! Lets start a photoblog of our own.

Cara January 1, 2012 at 7:25 am

HA! Loving the name :) I actually have been contemplating that for awhile. A simple place where you can see pictures of normal food. I get anxiety attacks when I see food perfectly photographed anyway…

Susan January 1, 2012 at 7:16 am

What’s working for me? Listening to myself more, trusting in my gut and in other people, kicking college butt, great friends and family, and remembering that it’s okay to mess up. These things have all brought me so much comfort in the last year, but they are all things that require hard work and attention. So my “resolution” is to honor them!

janetha January 1, 2012 at 9:51 am

susan i love that photo of you!

Susan January 2, 2012 at 3:40 am

Thanks Janetha!

Rune January 1, 2012 at 7:48 am

Hey Eden,

I’m honestly not trying to nag at all. I was just wondering if everything’s okay? You usually update every day and it’s been two days now.

I’m not sitting here going ‘omg how dare she take a break how dare she’- not at all. If you’re just taking a break, GOOD. Enjoy it!

I just wanted to check that everything was okay with your dad etc.

Eden January 1, 2012 at 8:39 am

Everything is fine. I just didn’t have anything worthy of blogging about and I was busy doing other stuff. I hope no one expect me to blog every day but I know thats what usually end up happening so I can see the concern. Everything is fine though. Happy new year! I’m off to go back to sleep 😉

Jolene ( January 1, 2012 at 8:48 am

Happy New Year Eden!!!!!

You really are hot :-) And funny! Love your blog and look forward to seeing you in 2012, either in LA, or maybe San Fransisco …!?

janetha January 1, 2012 at 9:50 am

awesome post, love! such a positive thing to focus on all the things in your life that are right. and it’s really awesome to read all the stuff you love about yourself. you should do that more often. and you are flipping way hot! happy new year, can’t wait to see you again <3

Kristina January 1, 2012 at 10:54 am

Un-resolutions… I love it! I agree that it’s way too easy to focus on what’s not working in our lives rather than what is. One of my yoga teachers brought this up in class a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been sort of fixated on it ever since.

Happy New Year!

Sam January 1, 2012 at 11:31 am

I really like your blog too! And pretending watermelons are boobies is pretty funny in my book.

I kind of hate new years because of resolutions and all that crap. Besides we both know New Years is actually Rosh Hashanah.

Daniela January 1, 2012 at 11:16 pm

And you know how to do really good Princess Amidala makeup (you might not remember this) and know how to cut Madonna shirts really cute.

Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning January 5, 2012 at 5:34 pm

Sorry for the delay- I’m catching up on your past, like 10 posts just now.
Food Gawker has accepted ONE photo ever from me- and I had to submit it about 10 times (and personally think it looks like crap now- it was much better when I first submitted it). And I am a photography teacher for a living! They are ridiculous.
My resolution is to drink more water. So far I rock it. But I have to pee every hour, which sucks.

Susan January 8, 2012 at 7:40 pm

Yeah, I’m way behind blogs too and was going to go through yours and not comment hoping you wouldn’t notice, BUT! I have to tell you that Foodgawker rejects me aaallll the time too. They’ve only ever accepted two of my photos. I think it’s because they like pictures with fancy table settings and fancy looking things blurred in the background and well, I’m not fancy at all. My dinner table consists of a pile of old newspapers and wilting flowers. So yeah, I hear ya.
