Since posting about my blog drafts I never published, I certainly felt a slight kick in the ass from readers to finish those drafts up.
So I hopped to it (not literally, I don’t hop. Too much energy expenditure. Plus, I’m not a bunny.)
These are words I find inexplicably funny:
Subtle: The fact that this word contains a “b” you hardly notice makes me smirk.
Bunion: One of the funniest words I can think of. Rhymes with a wonderful burger topper, but its actually disgusting lumps of skin formed usually on your toes. Gross, but hilarious sounding.
Smorgasbord: I know. It basically means the same as a buffet, but more hilarious.
Lisp: I particularly find this word funny because its more prominent when pronounced by someone with a lisp.
Goulash: A Hungarian beef stew made. But I think it sounds like some sort of subcategory like poop.
Wharf: I have no explanation as to why this word makes me laugh. I think it has something to do with the way its spelled, the way its pronounced, and the fact that it feels like a hybrid of “whale” and “barf”.
Mustache: Its not the meaning of “mustache” that I find funny, its just that I always thing to myself,
“I mustache you a question. But I’m shaving it for later….”
Scuttlebutt: Is a nautical term meaning rumor or gossip, but I just think it sounds like butt virus you can contract.
Lugubrious: This word means “sad”, but ironically, it makes me laugh.
Garbanzo: yep, as in “garbanzo beans”. Sounds like it should be a name for one of the muppets (maybe Gonzo’s cousin or something?). This also ties in with today’s recipe.

Meep: This doesn’t have some profound definition. Its just like “meep, meep!”… Kind of like a beep, but cuter and for mice. Yea, I need to get a life.
What words make you laugh? Is it what they mean or how they sound? Or both?
I know, I’m a “meat” kind of gal. And when given the option, I’ll always chose meat over a “veggie” burger. But since I had leftover pumpkin, I thought I’d try to make something else with all the extra pumpkin. And you know what? This is almost as delicious as meat.

Makes one burger
- 2 Egg whites OR 1 egg OR 1 tbs flaxseed meal mixed with 1tbs water
- 1/4 cup pumpkin (or sweet potato puree)
- 1 Tbs chopped pecans (or any nut)
- 1 Tbs Vital Wheat Gluten (or 2 Tbs if not using garbanzo bean flour)
- 1 Tbs Garbanzo bean flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- spices (you can totally be creative with the spices and use whatever you fancy but for this on I used: dash of garlic powder, coriander, salt, nutmeg, oregano, parsley)
- 1Tbs apple cider vinegar
- 1 Tbs water
Spray a bowl or ramekin with a light layer of oil to prevent sticking. Mix all ingredients well with fork or whisk. If you want to make a bunch of burgers, quadruple the recipe and you can blend it all in a blender. Microwave for 2:30-4 min on high and this will depend on your microwave (mine took 4 min but when I tried the recipe at my dads it only took three so it varies, just keep an eye on it after 2:30 min). Take it out of the bowl and top with your burger toppings of choice.

I have to agree with “Garbanzo,” only because I used to have a bird named Gonzo when I was little and my grandpa could never say it right. He called him “Garbanzo” all the time. I say “chickpea,” which is preferable to “dudepea,” no?
“Shuttlecock” and “tittle” make me giggle because evidently I’m 12 years old. I know there are a million more, but I can’t think of them now, so Garbanzo.
It’s sort of like a pumpkin falafel. I can get down with that.
The pumpkin burger is a neat idea. But what if you don’t have the vital wheat gluten? Can you use more garbanzo flour? Spelt? Regular?
Words I like, hmm, I actually like to say “google”. I also like “meander”, “lollygag”, “persnickety”, “smarmy”, “snarky”, “mosey”, and “wienerschnitzel”. I’m sure there are others but I’ve had no coffee and can’t think! Oh and I like “rubbish” as in “that’s bogus” (like that one too)
I think I mentioned in the recipe that you can sub more garbanzo bean flour. I like to use vital wheat gluten cause its got a high protein content so it would serve as a “burger” patty.
Oh! I thought you meant to use 2 TBSP of the gluten if you didnt have chick pea flour, cause the 2 TBSP is by the wheat gluten. Sorry!

Have you ever looked at a common word, like both, and suddenly it becomes funny to say or like weird that it would be spelled that way?? Kinda hard to describe and maybe it’s just me. One time, I looked at the word, WHAT, spelled on a piece of paper and it looked so weird – like that’s not how it was supposed to be spelled or something.
I swear…I wasn’t high when I just typed this all out.

Hmmm, words that make me giggle…
1. Motorboat (kind of obvious why that one does)
2. Biscuit – Don’t know why it makes me giggle other than the fact that I can never remember where the u’s and i’s go! Ohh, and I like to enunciate the u and the last i.
3. Crumpet – Sounds like a crummy trumpet.
4. Schnapps – I love this word for two reasons. One: it is sooooooo much fun to say (and it gets more fun to say the more schnapps you drink). Two: It is awesome in cocoa.
5. Bibcock – I don’t know why I love it other than the one word that is in there…Maybe because a bibcock is a faucet with a downward bend, and this makes me think of something droopy and dripping…hence needing a bib…that is just getting gross…I’m done now haha!
I love to say McMuffin! and now McLovin.
teeee heeee. the whole lisp thing made me giggle. I always wondered that. i like scuttlebutt, just saying it makes sound strange, and well I am strange.
Funny word? Keen. Not sure why. Maybe because my husband says it all the time and I laugh at him.

I love the word scuttlebutt, too! I used to use it in front of my 3rd graders all the time, and they always laughed because their teacher said the word “butt” – I can’t say I really blame them.
My favorite word is “ubiquitous” – I just LOVE the way it sounds.
Ah yes, I love “ubiquitous”. It makes me sound like I know what I’m saying.
I laugh at made up words. Especially made up words for ‘rude’ bits. hehe. My latest one (for a female) is “fun-buggy.”
I think you find ‘Smorgasbord’ funny because it ALMOST sounds like ‘smORGASMbord’!
Okay, I read the title of this post and almost vommed in my mouth. Pumpkin Veggie Burgers sounded so disgusting and “food bloggger”-y….,until I got to the bottom and read the recipe. You are a genius. The burgers sound fantastic and your seasoning suggestion combo is great to boot.
Haha brilliant array of words, didn’t half give me a chuckle. Here are a few of mine.
pamplemousse – french for grapefruit but I dunno it;s just such an odd combination of sounds, always makes me laugh.
gligs – means glasses (as in eyeglasses) and just has a nice ring to it.
Dyslexia – for possibly being the most unfair word ever.
Galang – I think it’s related to ginger? but it’s cos of MIA that I love this word
Wiggler – A great word in its own right but made better by the fact it’s a technical term for a very complicated piece of equipment http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiggler_(synchrotron)
And on that note Synchrotron is also a boss word. You do pronounce the first ‘r’ for the record.
