I’ve arrived in Belgium yesterday.
You may remember I made a similar trip to London and Belgium last year with my father.
This trip is very eerie because its my first time in here without him.
My dad was proud of being Belgian and being in his hometown is bitter-sweet. I guess I’m kinda proud I’m Belgian too.
So proud that I’m giving you reasons why its totally awesome to be Belgian:
1) Belgium produces 220,000 tons of chocolate per year
And they aren’t even all on their period! That’s about 22kg of chocolate per person in Belgium.
2) Belgium makes over 800 different beers.
They drink an average of 150 litres of beer per year per person, they have ZERO frat parties, and this isn’t confirmed, but I’m pretty sure you get murdered if you get caught drinking Bud Light.
3) If you want to be a citizen, it is mandatory that you vote
I can’t tell you how many elections I’ve missed in the states and I was born and still reside there. To maintain my Belgian citizenship, do you know how many elections I’ve missed?
Zero (even though I had no idea who I was voting for, probably with the one whose name I could pronounce).
Ryan is obviously very proud of me.
4) Belgium is the birthplace of “The Adventures of Tintin”
Its doesn’t stop there, Belgium also has more comic makers per square km than any other country in the world, even Japan. No wonder people think I’m semi-hilarious.
5) Dog love
As exemplified in this post, I have never been to a more dog friendly country. They’re allowed everywhere and treated similar to the way cows are treated in India.
Being a “bitch” is a compliment around here.
I fit in perfectly.
Are you proud of your nationality (or nationalities?). What are some awesome things about where you come from? Are you embarrassed by anything?
